This week, Bob and Nate discuss and review Lore of the Clans. Released in 2015, Lore of the Clans is a single sourcebook detailing all of the clans for play in Vampire: the Masquerade’s 20th Anniversary edition. Additionally, this book details info about the Caitiff - classless amongst the damned - and the Antitribu. This book was written by Alan Alexander, Kevin Czarnecki, Joshua Doetsch, Matt McElroy, Andrew Peregrine, Ree Soesbee, Rob Wieland, Christopher Wilde and released on December 23rd, 2015 for Onyx Path Publishing.

Lore of the Clans

My sire always told me, “There’s no instruction manual for being dead, strákur.” I believed her, because she was older and smarter than me, and we value knowledge if nothing else. Many sires spill a lot of poison into the ears of their childer, telling them the One True Way to be a vampire. Some vampires don’t even bother, kicking their errant progeny to the streets and letting them figure it out for themselves. A few smother their instruction in religious imperatives, philosophical tenets, or mystical confluences. But not one of them has a pamphlet with clear, easy instructions once you’ve become Damned.

Of course they lie. All vampires lie. But the best lies are those that are told between two truths, yes? Here are thirteen such truths, childe. They may line up with other things you know, or they might not. Sometimes the narrators present tantalizing rumors and conspiracies, while others digress into areas not often considered by many. Some of what they say have no facts to back them up, but not everything is a lie, either.
Let us find instruction from amidst the lies, together.

*Note: in our haste to review the second edition, we incorrectly remembered this book and erroneously stated that the Sabbat clans, independent clans and some various other information was in this book, when it is in fact, not. We apologize for our mistake. There is actually very little additional information in this book that was missing from the previous edition. Also, The Appendix has the beginning of the Forged in Steel Chronicle, which starts in Gary, Indiana and moves into the Chicago Chronicles.* 
"Vampire is a game of make-believe, of pretend, of storytelling. Although Vampire is a game, it is more about storytelling than it is about winning. If you've never done this kind of thing before, you may be confused by the whole premise of a storytelling game. Once you catch on to the basic concepts, however, you'll find that it isn't all that strange, and is, in fact, eerily familiar.

You, along with some of your friends, are going to tell stories of madness and lust. Tales of things that go bump in the night. Tales of peril, paranoia, and sinister, shadowy evil. Tales from the darkest recesses of our unconscious minds. And at the heart of these stories are vampires.
